Greenacres Carbon Capture
ERF177413
Project Information:
Greenacres Carbon Capture is a plantation forestry project located in the Greater Taree area, approximately 35km southwest of Taree in NSW. It was registered in June 2024 and covers 76.79ha.
Plantation forestry projects that transition to a permanent planting involve stopping the scheduled commercial harvesting of an existing plantation. Standard requirements dictate that the trees are maintained permanently as a forest to continuously sequester carbon, rather than being clear-felled for timber production.
The Greater Taree region is known for primary agricultural production, including cattle grazing (both beef and dairy) and forestry operations. The area is considered a high rainfall zone, typically receiving over 1,100mm of annual rainfall. Soils in the region are generally texture-contrast soils such as Chromosols, Kurosols, and Dermosols, featuring loamy topsoils over clay subsoils.
This project sequesters carbon by actively protecting the plantation from being cleared and converted into non-forested agricultural land. The proponent, Carbon Fix Pty Limited, actively targets high-rainfall areas for their projects to maximize carbon yield and promote environmental co-benefits such as increased biodiversity.
