Bury Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Bury Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara District of South Australia, approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Bordertown. Registered in May 2023, the project covers 507 hectares of agricultural land near the South Australia-Victoria border. The site is situated within the Upper South East region, an area predominantly used for mixed farming operations including broadacre cropping and livestock grazing.

This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which incentivizes farmers to adopt land management activities that increase soil organic carbon stocks. Specific activities for this project include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage practices, and retaining crop stubble. These changes are designed to improve soil health and sequester carbon, which is measured through a combination of physical soil sampling and modeling over the project's crediting period.

The region typically experiences a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers, receiving an average annual rainfall of approximately 450–500mm. The local terrain generally consists of flats and gentle undulations, often featuring texture-contrast soils such as sandy loams over clay subsoils (Sodosols) or cracking clays (Vertosols) common in the Tatiara and Wimmera districts. The "Bury Carbon" series appears to involve multiple project areas within the same locality, managed by the proponent Agriprove Solutions, a leading developer of soil carbon projects in Australia.
