Project Information:

BCP Energy Reductions Project is an Animal Effluent Management project located in the 4630 postcode area, encompassing Monto in the North Burnett region of Queensland, approximately 110km south-west of Gladstone. It was registered in September 2022. While the exact project area size is not mapped on the public registry, the surrounding district is well known for its strong agricultural roots, particularly beef cattle grazing, dairy farming, broadacre cropping, and citrus production.

Animal Effluent Management projects under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Animal Effluent Management) Methodology Determination 2019 involve avoiding agricultural emissions. These projects generate carbon credits by preventing the release of methane and nitrous oxide from decomposing agricultural waste. Standard requirements typically involve upgrading effluent treatment systems to securely capture the biogas generated by the waste.

The North Burnett area experiences a sub-tropical climate with a highly variable, summer-dominant rainfall averaging between 600mm and 750mm annually. The landscape is diverse, featuring soils that range from deep red volcanic ferrosols to fertile alluvial clays and sandy loams along the river systems.

This project was established to actively collect and combust methane generated from animal effluent at a newly constructed emissions destruction treatment facility. By collecting the biogas and destroying the emissions through combustion, the project breaks down the highly potent methane, preventing it from entering the atmosphere while supporting more sustainable agricultural waste management practices.
