Bury Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Bury Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 10km west of Bordertown in the Tatiara District of South Australia. Registered on May 22, 2023, the project covers 288 hectares of agricultural land. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. To achieve this, the project has implemented specific land management activities designed to boost soil health and sequestration. These activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage practices, and retaining crop stubble after harvest. By minimizing soil disturbance and maximizing organic matter retention, the project aims to build carbon stocks over a 25-year permanence period.
The Tatiara District, often referred to as "Good Country," is a key agricultural region known for reliable winter rainfall and diverse land use, predominantly mixed cropping and grazing (sheep and cattle). The region typically experiences a Mediterranean climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm to 500mm. The local soil profile is varied but commonly features clay loams and sandy loams over clay, often associated with the region's characteristic "gilgai" formations and underlying limestone (Calcarosols).
