Messner Carbon Project 6

Project Information:

Messner Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the northeastern Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 35km northwest of Westonia and near the locality of Warralakin. Registered in June 2022, the project covers a substantial landholding of approximately 1,210 hectares. The region is predominantly used for broadacre cropping (wheat, barley, canola) and sheep grazing, typical of the intensive agricultural zone in Western Australia.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies, a practice designed to boost plant growth and return more biomass to the soil. As the proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd typically employs a model that combines such agronomic inputs with regenerative practices to enhance soil health and measure carbon stock increases over time.

Environmentally, the site sits within a semi-arid Mediterranean climate zone, characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters with annual rainfall generally between 300mm and 350mm. The soils in this part of the Wheatbelt are typically sandy loams or duplex soils (sand over clay), which can be susceptible to issues like salinity or acidity if not carefully managed. This project is one of several "Messner" designated projects registered on the same date, suggesting it is part of a larger aggregated agricultural enterprise or property subdivision participating in the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme.
