Baume Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Baume Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the rural locality of Warncoort, approximately 13 kilometers east of the regional centre of Colac in Victoria. Registered on June 6, 2022, the project covers a specific land area of 73.36 hectares. The project is situated within the Colac Otway Shire, a region forming part of Victoria's Western District, which is renowned for its fertile volcanic plains.

The project operates under the 2021 Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology. This method credits landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through new management activities. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By optimizing soil nutrition, the project intends to stimulate pasture growth and increase root biomass, which in turn draws more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile.

Environmentally, the Warncoort area typically experiences a temperate climate with reliable, high rainfall, often exceeding 700mm annually, which is conducive to high-productivity grazing. The soils in this region are predominantly heavy clays and volcanic basalt derivatives, which have a high capacity for carbon storage compared to sandier soils. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a leading corporate service provider in the Australian carbon market that specializes in soil carbon projects.
