Berinson Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Berinson Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Western Downs region of Queensland, approximately 12km east of Dulacca and 30km west of the town of Miles. Registered in June 2022, the project covers a land area of roughly 534 hectares. The surrounding region is part of the Brigalow Belt, an area traditionally utilized for mixed broadacre cropping and cattle grazing, characterized by its fertile cracking clay and texture-contrast soils.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This framework allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by implementing new land management activities that increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. For Berinson Carbon Project 1, these activities include altering stocking rates or grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and rejuvenating pastures through seeding. The 2021 methodology requires a baseline soil core sample to establish initial carbon levels, followed by subsequent sampling rounds (typically every 1 to 5 years) to measure the sequestered carbon physically.
Environmentally, the Western Downs region experiences a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with a summer-dominant rainfall pattern, averaging approximately 600mm to 650mm annually. This rainfall level is generally considered sufficient to support the pasture establishment and regeneration activities proposed by the project, provided drought conditions do not intervene. The proponent, AgriProve Solutions, is a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector, known for aggregating similar projects and utilizing digital platforms to streamline the complex baselining and auditing requirements associated with soil carbon farming.
