Project Information:

Hayden Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 30km north of Dubbo in the Orana region of New South Wales. Registered in April 2022 by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, the project covers 149 hectares of agricultural land within the Dubbo Regional Council area.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by establishing permanent pasture on land that was previously cropland or bare fallow, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and altering grazing intensity to maintain vegetation cover. These activities are designed to build soil health and resilience while generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).

The surrounding region is a transition zone between the Central West Slopes and the Western Plains, characterized by mixed farming land use, including dryland cropping (wheat, canola) and livestock grazing. The area typically receives moderate annual rainfall of approximately 580–600mm. Soils in this vicinity are often Red Chromosols or Vertosols (cracking clays), which are productive for agriculture but benefit significantly from the increased organic matter and structural improvements targeted by this project.
