Project Information:

LANDARI AKD-2 NSW is a plantation forestry project located approximately 35km south of the major regional city of Bathurst, near the locality of Rockley in the NSW Central Tablelands. Registered in April 2022, the project covers a significant area of 1,334 hectares. It was originally established under the proponent Landari Pty Ltd before being transferred to Associated Kiln Driers Pty Limited (AKD) in October 2023.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. This methodology credits the carbon sequestered by establishing new plantation forests on land that has been clear of forest for at least seven years. Unlike environmental plantings, this method explicitly allows for commercial harvesting; the project generates carbon credits (ACCUs) by averaging the carbon stored in the trees over the rotation cycles of planting, growing, and harvesting.

The Rockley and wider Bathurst region is a well-known agricultural and forestry hub, often characterized by grazing and softwood timber production. The area typically experiences moderate to high rainfall (averaging 700mm–800mm annually), which is conducive to commercial forestry. The local soils are diverse but predominantly granite-derived acidic soils or duplex soils common to the Bathurst granite formations, with some pockets of basalt closer to the Oberon plateau.

Associated Kiln Driers (AKD), the current proponent, is one of Australia's largest softwood sawmillers and a fully integrated forestry company. The acquisition of this project aligns with their strategy to secure long-term timber resources for their processing operations while generating carbon revenue. The project is designed to produce commercial wood products, likely Pinus radiata (Radiata Pine), which is the dominant commercial species in the region.
