Chipp Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Chipp Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara district of South Australia, approximately 20 kilometers west of Bordertown. Registered in March 2022, the project covers a project area of roughly 115 hectares. The region is situated within the productive "Good Country" of the Upper South East, an area traditionally dominated by mixed farming operations including grain cropping and livestock grazing.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, retaining crop stubble, and converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage practices. These changes are designed to improve soil structure and maximize carbon retention in the ground.

Environmentally, the Bordertown region is classified as a medium rainfall zone, typically receiving around 500mm annually, which supports reliable cropping and pasture growth. The local soils are generally fertile, often characterized as clay loams or sandy soils over clay, which are well-suited to the project's focus on building soil health and organic matter. This project appears to be part of a larger engagement by the proponent, as a "Chipp Carbon Project 2" also appears in public records, suggesting a phased approach or multiple landholdings involved in the carbon farming initiative.
