Henty Carbon Project

The Henty Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the rural locality of Bower, South Australia. Situated approximately 30 kilometers south of the Murray River town of Morgan and 25 kilometers east of Eudunda, the project sits within the Regional Council of Goyder. It was registered on January 17, 2022, and covers a project area of approximately 565 hectares.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This high-integrity method involves establishing a baseline of soil carbon stocks through physical coring and then implementing new land management activities to increase those stocks over time. Specific activities for this project include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and the re-establishment of pasture through seeding or pasture cropping. These changes are designed to boost plant growth and root mass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile.

Environmentally, the site is located in a semi-arid region often associated with the "Goyder Line," a historic boundary marking the limit of reliable cropping in South Australia. The area typically experiences low annual rainfall, averaging between 250mm and 300mm, with hot summers and cool winters. The landscape consists of mallee scrub and open grazing land, with soils generally characterized as calcareous earths or sandy loams over clay. The land use in this district is predominantly mixed farming, focusing on sheep grazing and opportunistic cereal cropping.

As a leading developer in the sector, AgriProve specializes in the "partnering" model, handling the regulatory and measurement complexities for landholders.
