Swartz Carbon Project 6

Project Information:
Swartz Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located at "Calliweera Farm," approximately 50km northwest of Rockhampton in the Fitzroy Basin region of Queensland. Registered in March 2022, the project covers 335 hectares and is part of a larger 2,109-hectare aggregation of 11 projects managed by the Warnock family, who have farmed the area for five generations.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. The Warnock family has transitioned from set stocking to rotational grazing, supported by significant investment in new infrastructure, including 75 kilometers of electric fencing and over 50 new water points. This shift has allowed them to increase their stocking rate by approximately 100%, from 500 to 1,000 head of cattle, while simultaneously improving soil health.
The Fitzroy Basin region is characterized by a sub-tropical climate with summer-dominant rainfall. The landscape typically features clay soils (often associated with the Brigalow Belt) which have a high capacity for carbon sequestration when managed effectively. This specific project is notable for its rapid success; utilizing AgriProve’s soil organic carbon model (combining satellite imagery with ground testing), the Swartz aggregation was able to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) within just two years of operation, significantly faster than the typical five-year timeframe.
