Swartz Carbon Project 5

Project Information:

Swartz Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located within the Fitzroy Basin, approximately 55 kilometers northwest of Rockhampton, Queensland. Registered on March 1, 2022, the project covers a 235.75-hectare area on the "Calliweera" property, which is owned and managed by the Warnock family. This project is one of 11 aggregated soil carbon projects on the property, which collectively cover over 2,000 hectares.

The region operates under a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall averaging between 600mm and 800mm annually. The landscape is typical of the Brigalow Belt, characterized by fertile cracking clay soils and texture-contrast soils that are highly responsive to improved grazing management. The primary land use in this area is beef cattle grazing, a major industry for Central Queensland.

Operating under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology, the project focuses on increasing soil organic carbon levels through regenerative farming practices. Key activities include transitioning from set stocking to high-intensity rotational grazing, installing new water infrastructure and fencing, and applying nutrients to address soil deficiencies. Notably, the wider Swartz aggregation is recognized for achieving one of the fastest issuances of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) under the 2021 methodology, generating credits within just two years of operation by demonstrating measured improvements in soil health and carrying capacity.
