Courtice Carbon Project 7

Project Information:

Courtice Carbon Project 7 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Southern Mallee region of South Australia, approximately 70km south of Pinnaroo and 60km north of Bordertown. Registered in November 2021, the project covers a land area of roughly 212 hectares. The region is characterized by a semi-arid to sub-humid climate with low annual rainfall, typical of the Mallee's mixed farming zone which supports both cereal cropping and livestock grazing. The local soils are predominantly sandy loams and calcareous soils, often overlaying clay or limestone, which can be susceptible to erosion but responsive to improved management.

The project operates under the Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems methodology. This method credits landholders for increasing the amount of carbon stored in their soil compared to a measured baseline. To achieve this, the project employs activities such as establishing new pasture on previously cropped land, altering grazing intensity to allow for pasture recovery, and applying specific nutrients to address soil deficiencies.

Developed by AgriProve, a leading soil carbon project developer, this project appears to be part of a larger aggregation of properties managed by the Courtice family, with other projects (such as Courtice Carbon Project 10) located in the adjacent Tatiara district. AgriProve typically utilizes digital soil mapping and specialized pasture renovation techniques (often involving multi-species cropping) to accelerate carbon build-up in these sandy soil profiles.
