Davidson Carbon Project 3

Project Information:

Davidson Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 25 kilometers south of Pinnaroo in the Southern Mallee region of South Australia. Registered on February 12, 2022, the project covers an area of 348.36 hectares. The site is situated near the border of the Ngarkat Conservation Park, an area typically characterized by broadacre dryland agriculture and livestock grazing.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This framework allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by implementing changes in land management that increase soil organic carbon levels. For this specific project, activities include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to correct nutrient deficiencies, the re-establishment of pasture through seeding, and the alteration of stocking rates or grazing intensity to improve soil health and vegetation cover.

The surrounding Mallee environment is classified as semi-arid, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 300mm to 350mm. The landscape is dominated by sandy loams and Mallee sands, which are often naturally low in organic matter. These sandy soils can be responsive to management interventions, such as the introduction of deep-rooted pasture species and improved nutrient cycling, which this project aims to utilize for carbon abatement. The project is facilitated by Agriprove, a major service provider in the Australian soil carbon sector.
