Project Information:

Robinson 2022 is an environmental planting project located near the township of Tooborac, approximately 15km south of Heathcote in Central Victoria. Registered in December 2021, the project covers nearly 57 hectares of land previously utilized for agriculture. The site sits within the Shire of Mitchell, a region traditionally dominated by sheep and cattle grazing, though the broader area is also renowned for the Heathcote wine region and its distinct viticulture.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology. This involves establishing permanent plantings of mixed native tree species on land that has been clear of forest for at least five years. To meet the requirements of the Carbon Farming Initiative, the planting must be established at a density sufficient to achieve forest cover, typically requiring at least 200 stems per hectare, and must utilize species native to the local area.

Environmentally, the Tooborac region is characterized by a temperate climate with moderate rainfall, generally averaging between 500mm and 600mm annually. The local landscape is famous for its dramatic granite boulders, often indicating granitic sandy loam soils, though the valleys in this region frequently contain heavier clay loams. The project activity explicitly notes the conversion of agricultural land to permanent native vegetation, aiming to restore biodiversity while sequestering carbon in the growing biomass.
