Project Information:

Evatt Carbon Project - Breust 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 13km southwest of Temora in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in September 2021, the project covers a 242-hectare area dedicated to dryland cropping and mixed farming. The region is renowned for its agricultural output, particularly winter cereals like wheat and canola, supported by a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of around 530mm.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology. This framework credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. Originally registered under the 2018 determination, the project transitioned to the 2021 method in July 2024. Specific activities employed to drive sequestration include the retention of crop stubble, the conversion from intensive tillage to reduced or no-tillage systems, and the targeted application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies.

The soils in the Temora district are typically red chromosols (red-brown earths) and sodosols, which can be prone to acidity and sodicity but are highly productive under careful management. By adopting minimum tillage and stubble retention, the project aims not only to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) but also to improve soil structure and moisture retention, vital for resilience in the region's variable climate. The project is managed by AgriProve Solutions, a prominent developer specializing in soil carbon projects across Australia.
