Native woodland regeneration project WOO21

Project Information:
Native woodland regeneration project WOO21 is a Human-Induced Regeneration project located in the Paroo Shire of South West Queensland, approximately 100km north-east of Cunnamulla. It was registered in August 2021 and covers 25,876.93 hectares.
Human-Induced Regeneration projects involve regenerating permanent even-aged native forests by changing land management practices to allow native vegetation to regenerate from in-situ seed sources. To achieve this, the project has ceased the mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth and is actively managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing.
The Paroo Shire and surrounding Mulga Lands bioregion are well known for sheep and cattle grazing operations. The area is considered semi-arid and soils are generally red earths, sandy loams, and clays.
This project establishes permanent native forests on land that was previously cleared of vegetation and where regrowth had been suppressed for at least 10 years. The project is managed in partnership with Tasman Environmental Markets, and credits from this project have been purchased by major Australian companies, including Stockland and Slattery Australia, to offset their residual Scope 1 corporate emissions.
