Project Information:

Anthony Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 15km north of Bathurst in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered in November 2021, the project covers an area of roughly 178 hectares within the Bathurst Regional Council area.

The Bathurst region is a well-established agricultural hub, predominantly utilized for sheep and cattle grazing due to its temperate climate and rolling terrain. The area typically experiences moderate rainfall, averaging around 600mm to 650mm annually, which is slightly lower than the nearby city of Orange due to a local rain shadow effect. The soils in this specific locality are often derived from Bathurst Granites, characterized as acidic and red duplex soils, which require careful management to maintain pasture health.

Operated under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems) Methodology Determination 2018, the project aims to increase soil organic carbon levels by altering land management practices. Specifically, the project activities involve adjusting the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to improve soil health and sequester carbon. The project is managed by Agriprove, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon market, and has a nominated permanence period of 25 years.
