Project Information:

Pike Creek Biodiversity and Carbon Project (Revoked) is an environmental planting project located in the rural locality of Pikedale, approximately 33km west of Stanthorpe in Queensland's Southern Downs region. Registered in August 2021, the project encompasses an area of 1028.10 hectares, with 538 hectares specifically targeted by the proponent for new forest establishment.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology. Environmental planting projects involve establishing permanent, mixed-species native trees on land that was predominantly used for agricultural purposes for at least five years prior to commencement. To meet the standard scheme requirements, these plantings must be established at a stocking density capable of achieving forest cover, typically defined as reaching a minimum of 20% crown cover and a height of at least 2 metres.

The surrounding Granite Belt and Traprock region is primarily used for sheep and cattle grazing on native vegetation, alongside localized cropping and horticulture. The environment experiences a temperate, sub-humid climate with a solid average annual rainfall of approximately 769mm. Soils in the project's vicinity are typically derived from granite and traprock, ranging from shallow, free-draining sandy loams to heavier clay loams in the subsoil.

Corporate Carbon Asset Management Pty Ltd, acting as the trustee for the CC Stage 1 Agricultural Trust, managed the project as a flagship restoration effort. The initiative aimed to enhance riparian zones and improve water quality for Pike Creek, a headwater tributary of the Murray-Darling Basin. In 2021, the proponent notably partnered with global environmental groups such as Team Trees, the Arbor Day Foundation, and Green Forests Work to plant 200,000 native trees, including endemic eucalypts, on the formerly neglected property. Despite these early restoration activities and global partnerships, the project was officially revoked on March 27, 2026, under section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule.
