Street Carbon Project

Street Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration initiative located in the locality of Bodangora, approximately 12 kilometers northwest of Wellington in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in August 2021, the project covers a project area of roughly 452 hectares. The region is situated within the Dubbo Regional Council local government area and is historically utilized for mixed farming operations, combining cereal cropping with sheep and cattle grazing.

The project operates under the 2018 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. Specifically, this project aims to sequester carbon by altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing. By optimizing grazing pressure, the project seeks to improve ground cover and root mass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile where it can be stored long-term.

Environmentally, the Wellington district is characterized by a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 620mm. The terrain around Bodangora typically consists of undulating hills with soils often classified as Red Chromosols or Red Brown Earths, loamy topsoils overlying clay subsoils. These soils are generally fertile and well-suited to pasture improvement, though they require careful management to prevent erosion and maintain structure.

The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia. In February 2022, a variation was made to the project area, removing certain parcels of land, likely to exclude non-compliant areas or infrastructure. As a soil carbon project, it is subject to rigorous baseline sampling and subsequent measurement rounds to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) based on measured increases in soil carbon over time.
