McLeahy Carbon Project

Project Information:

McLeahy Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Bodangora, approximately 17km north of the township of Wellington in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered on June 21, 2021, the project covers a project area of 136.48 hectares. This region is a major agricultural hub known for sheep and cattle grazing as well as cereal cropping. The local environment is classified as temperate with a semi-arid influence, receiving an average annual rainfall of approximately 620mm. The soils in the Bodangora area are typically red-brown earths (Chromosols) or cracking clays (Vertosols), which are well-suited to the pasture improvement activities central to this project.

The project operates under the Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems (2018) methodology. This method requires the proponent to implement a "new management activity" to increase soil organic carbon stocks. In this specific case, the project involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing, often shifting from continuous to time-controlled or rotational grazing to allow pastures to recover and deepen root systems.

The project is developed by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, a leading developer in the Australian soil carbon sector. A notable administrative detail is the variation that occurred in February 2022, where specific areas were removed from the project boundary, likely to refine the carbon estimation area or exclude ineligible land features.
