Project Information:

Green Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Greater Hume Shire of New South Wales. The project is situated approximately 35 kilometers north of the regional center of Albury and roughly 15 kilometers southeast of the town of Culcairn. Registered on March 29, 2021, the project covers a land area of 182.87 hectares.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems) Methodology Determination 2018. This methodology credits the increase of soil organic carbon levels achieved through new management activities. Specifically, this project focuses on altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of livestock grazing. By managing grazing pressure, the project aims to improve ground cover and root mass, effectively sequestering atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.

The surrounding region in the South West Slopes is a highly productive agricultural zone, primarily utilized for mixed farming, including sheep and cattle grazing as well as cereal cropping. The local environment is temperate, receiving an average annual rainfall of approximately 600mm, which supports reliable pasture growth. The soils in this area are typically red-brown earths or Chromosols, which are fertile but require careful management to maintain structure and carbon content.

The project proponent is Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, a prominent developer in the Australian market that specializes in aggregating and managing soil carbon projects. The project has a standard 25-year crediting period that runs until 2046.
