Watt Carbon Project
ERF159863
Project Information:
Watt Carbon Project is a Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration project located near Nathalia in the Moira Shire of northern Victoria. It was registered in November 2020 and covers 180.66 hectares.
Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration projects involve increasing the amount of carbon stored in agricultural soils through specific management actions. For this project, activities include re-establishing or rejuvenating pasture by seeding, and altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing. This methodology requires rigorous physical soil sampling to accurately measure the carbon sequestered over the project's permanence period.
The Moira Shire region is a highly productive agricultural area predominantly used for grazing, dairy farming, and cropping. The local environment experiences a moderate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm. Soils in the area generally range from sandy loams to fertile alluvial clay loams.
This project is managed by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, a major developer of soil carbon projects in Australia. The Watt Carbon Project is part of a broader portfolio of agricultural projects aggregated by Agriprove to deliver Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the Clean Energy Regulator under fixed delivery Carbon Abatement Contracts.
