Clemons Carbon Project

Project Information:

The Clemons Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 12km south of Barmedman and 25km northwest of Temora in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in December 2020, the project covers an area of 488.8 hectares within the Temora Shire Council local government area.

The surrounding Riverina and South West Slopes region is a major agricultural hub, primarily utilized for mixed farming operations that combine dryland cropping (wheat, canola) with sheep and cattle grazing. The local environment typically experiences a semi-arid to temperate climate with an average annual rainfall between 450mm and 550mm. The soil profile in this district commonly consists of Red Chromosols (red-brown earths) and clay-loams, which are productive but require careful management to maintain soil structure and organic matter levels.

This project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. The project activities focus on increasing soil carbon stocks by rejuvenating pastures through seeding and optimizing grazing management, specifically altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to improve ground cover and soil health. Notably, the project originally registered under the 2018 "Measurement" method but transitioned to the 2021 "Measurement and Models" method in March 2024, a strategic move often taken to utilize hybrid modeling for more cost-effective crediting. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions and is associated with a Carbon Abatement Contract (CAC808228) for the delivery of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the Commonwealth.
