Project Information:

Western Australia Rangelands Conservation Initiative Site 3 is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located on Murchison House Station, approximately 20km northeast of the coastal town of Kalbarri in Western Australia's Mid West region. Registered in September 2020, the project covers a significant area of 120,433 hectares.

The project operates on a historic pastoral lease known for sheep and cattle grazing, which has diversified in recent years into tourism and renewable energy ventures. The landscape is characterized by a semi-arid climate with winter-dominant rainfall, supporting vegetation types such as acacia shrublands (mulga) and coastal heath on red sandy earths and sandplains.

As a Human-Induced Regeneration project, the primary activity involves managing grazing pressure from livestock and feral animals (such as goats) to allow suppressed native vegetation to regenerate into forest cover. The project is managed by Terra Carbon Pty Limited, a subsidiary of the GreenCollar Group. Notably, Murchison House Station is also the site of significant proposed green hydrogen developments, highlighting the region's shift toward sustainable land use and energy production.
