WeAct Forest Aggregation project 1

WeAct Forest Aggregation project 1 is a plantation forestry project located in the Glenelg Shire of south-west Victoria, situated between the rural towns of Dartmoor and Casterton, approximately 40km east of Mount Gambier. It was registered in July 2020 and covers 574.90ha.

Plantation forestry projects involve generating carbon credits by establishing new plantations, maintaining existing ones, or changing the management practices of a forest. The standard requirement for this project is to successfully convert an existing short-rotation plantation into a long-rotation plantation forest. This allows the trees to grow for an extended period to be commercially harvested for long-lived wood products like sawlogs rather than short-lived pulpwood, increasing the total carbon stored in both the landscape and the durable timber.

The Glenelg Shire and the broader Green Triangle area are known for extensive commercial timber plantations and sheep and cattle grazing. The area is considered to have high rainfall, averaging over 730mm annually, and soils are generally deep sandy loams and clay.

This project is managed by WeAct Pty Ltd, a Melbourne-based global carbon project developer and trader. It operates with a 25-year permanence period, ensuring the sequestered carbon remains securely stored within the harvested products and forest biome long-term.
