Cavanagh Carbon Project - Syriatowicz
ERF153833
Project Information:
Cavanagh Carbon Project - Syriatowicz is a soil carbon project located approximately 20km southwest of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. Registered in March 2022, the project covers a project area of roughly 105 hectares.
The project operates under the 'Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models' methodology (2021). This method involves implementing new land management activities, such as rejuvenating pastures, altering stocking rates, or converting cropland to permanent pasture, to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. Under this specific protocol, soil carbon stocks are physically measured via sampling to establish a baseline and then re-measured over time to calculate the carbon credits (ACCUs) generated.
The Singleton region is a diverse agricultural landscape known for extensive beef cattle grazing, dairy farming, and viticulture, alongside significant mining operations. The area typically experiences a warm temperate climate with moderate rainfall (approximately 650–750mm annually). The local terrain often features Red Chromosols (red-brown earths) and texture-contrast soils on the slopes, with fertile alluvial soils found along the river flats and brook systems like the nearby Wollombi Brook. This project specifically targets the enhancement of soil health in an agricultural grazing system.
