O'Connor Carbon Project (Revoked)
ERF143491
Project Information:
The O'Connor Carbon Project (Revoked) was a soil carbon sequestration initiative located near Elizabeth Town in the Meander Valley region of Tasmania. Situated approximately 10 kilometers northwest of Deloraine and roughly 50 kilometers west of Launceston, the project covered an area of 174.7 hectares. It was registered with the Clean Energy Regulator on February 10, 2020.
The Meander Valley is renowned as one of Tasmania's premier agricultural districts, characterized by intensive grazing, dairy farming, and cropping. The region benefits from a reliable, high-rainfall climate, with Elizabeth Town receiving average annual rainfall exceeding 1,000mm. The local landscape is dominated by fertile, red basalt soils (Ferrosols) and clay loams, which are highly conducive to pasture growth and carbon storage.
The project operated under the Measurement of Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems methodology (2018). This method requires landholders to implement new management activities, in this case, re-establishing or rejuvenating pasture via seeding, to increase soil organic carbon levels. These increases are measured against a baseline through physical soil sampling over time.
On September 5, 2025, the project was revoked under Section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. Section 30 refers to a voluntary revocation application made by the project proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd. As the permanence period had not yet commenced, the revocation suggests the project was withdrawn before any Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) were secured, possibly due to a strategic realignment or land management changes.
