Out Performers Energy Efficiency Project

Project Information:

Out Performers Energy Efficiency Project is an aggregated industrial energy efficiency project managed by Shell Energy Trading Pty Ltd. Unlike land-based carbon projects that occupy a specific geographic coordinate, this project operates across multiple undefined industrial and commercial sites throughout Australia. It was registered in October 2019 and serves as a vehicle for crediting energy savings achieved through equipment upgrades at various client facilities.

The project utilizes the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Industrial Electricity and Fuel Efficiency) Methodology Determination 2015. This methodology credits emissions reductions achieved by improving the energy efficiency of industrial equipment, such as upgrading HVAC systems, lighting, refrigeration units, and control processes, or by switching to lower-emissions fuel sources. As an aggregated project, it allows the proponent to bundle multiple smaller efficiency upgrades from different locations into a single project to reduce administrative costs and maximize credit generation.

The project's name is derived from "Out Performers," an energy efficiency engineering consultancy acquired by ERM Power in September 2018. ERM Power was subsequently acquired by Shell Energy in 2019, bringing this project under Shell Energy's management. Because the project activities occur at various commercial and industrial sites (such as manufacturing plants or office buildings) rather than on agricultural land, standard environmental metrics like rainfall and soil type are not applicable. Recent market data indicates the project is actively generating credits, with approximately 62,000 ACCUs issued in July 2024 alone.
