Catchment Conservation Alliance - Southern Rivers Initiative Site #6 (Revoked)
ERF122202
Project Information:
Catchment Conservation Alliance - Southern Rivers Initiative Site #6 (Revoked) was a carbon sequestration project located approximately 30km south of Quilpie in South West Queensland. Registered in June 2018, the project covered a substantial area of 20,079 hectares. The project has since been revoked as of March 2022.
The project operated under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology. This method credits landholders for regenerating native forests on land where vegetation has been suppressed, typically by livestock or feral animals, for at least 10 years. To achieve this, the project activities involved managing the timing and extent of grazing and humane feral animal control to allow native vegetation to recover and reach forest cover status.
The site is situated in the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area characterized by semi-arid conditions and distinct red earth soils, often classified as Kandosols. The region is traditionally used for sheep and cattle grazing. The revocation of the project was enacted under section 30 of the CFI Rule, which indicates a voluntary revocation by the proponent, Terra Carbon Pty Limited (a subsidiary of GreenCollar), rather than a compliance enforcement action.
