Trophy Carbon Project

Project Information:

Trophy Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the rural locality of Lemon Springs, approximately 30km south of Kaniva in the West Wimmera region of Victoria. Registered in July 2018, the project currently operates on a project area of 116.09 hectares.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method requires landholders to implement new or materially different management activities, such as altering stocking rates, rejuvenating pastures, or applying specific nutrients, to increase Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) levels. These levels are quantified through a combination of physical soil sampling and modeling over time to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).

The West Wimmera region is a transitional agricultural zone known for mixed cropping and grazing. The area typically experiences a Mediterranean-style semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450-500mm. Soils in this specific vicinity (Lemon Springs/Minimay) often feature sandy loams or "buckshot" gravels overlying heavy clay subsoils (Sodosols), though the broader region also contains cracking clays (Vertosols) used for cropping.

A notable aspect of this project is its administrative history, reflecting the evolving nature of the carbon market. Originally operating under the 2014 soil carbon determination with Corporate Carbon Solutions, the project underwent significant changes in late 2025. It transferred proponent responsibility to Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd and upgraded to the more modern 2021 methodology. Additionally, the project area was varied in November 2024 to remove certain land parcels, refining the active sequestration zone.
