Project Information:
DAC-2018-01 is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the remote Mulga Lands of southern Queensland, approximately 85km southwest of the town of Bollon. Registered on April 9, 2018, the project encompasses a land area of 2,455 hectares.
The project operates under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. Unlike Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) projects which focus on managing grazing pressure, the NFMR method is specifically designed for land that has previously undergone comprehensive clearing for pastoral purposes. The core activity of this project is the cessation of mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth. By stopping these clearing cycles, the project allows native vegetation, typically Mulga (Acacia aneura) or Poplar Box communities, to regenerate from in-situ seed sources, rootstock, and lignotubers into permanent native forest.
Situated within the Balonne Shire, the region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with variable rainfall and predominantly red earth and sandy loam soils. The surrounding land use is almost exclusively extensive grazing for sheep and cattle. A notable aspect of this project is its proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd (DAC). Founded by grazier Dominic Devine to integrate carbon farming with active pastoral operations, DAC was acquired by GreenCollar in July 2021, bringing this project under the management of one of Australia's largest environmental market investors.
