Project Information:

CO2 Australia - Human-Induced Regeneration Project - Stage 7 (Revoked) is a human-induced regeneration project located approximately 55km northwest of Parkes in New South Wales. It was registered in November 2017 and covers 1.29ha.

Human-induced regeneration projects involve establishing permanent native forests by changing land management practices, such as the exclusion of livestock, to encourage regrowth from in-situ seed sources like rootstock and lignotubers. A standard requirement of this methodology is that the regenerating forest must have the potential to reach a minimum of 20% crown cover and a height of at least 2 meters.

The Parkes region is well known for mixed agricultural operations, primarily sheep and cattle grazing alongside broadacre cropping. The area experiences moderate, variable rainfall, and local soil profiles are typically dominated by red-brown earths, clay loams, and sandy loams.

Notably, this project covers an unusually small area for a human-induced regeneration site. It was established on land where vegetation regrowth had been actively suppressed for at least 10 years prior to commencement. The project was officially revoked in August 2022 under section 30 of the CFI Rule, and an administrative variation in December 2024 updated the proponent's name to CO2 AUSTRALIA Pty Ltd.
