Elliot Carbon (Revoked)

Project Information:
Elliot Carbon (Revoked) was a soil carbon project located in the locality of Seaview, approximately 15 kilometers south of the major regional town of Warragul in Victoria's West Gippsland region. Registered in July 2017, the project covered a small area of 92.5 hectares within the Baw Baw Shire, a district renowned for its rolling green hills and productive agriculture.
The project operated under the Sequestering Carbon in Soils in Grazing Systems methodology (2014). This early soil carbon method required landholders to implement new management activities, such as pasture renovation, fertilization, or altered grazing density, to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil profile compared to a historical baseline. The 2014 determination has since been superseded by newer methodologies, which may explain the project's revocation in December 2024, a common step for early projects transitioning to newer frameworks or concluding their pilot phases.
The West Gippsland region is characterized by high reliable rainfall (typically exceeding 1,000mm annually) and is famous for its deep, red volcanic soils (Ferrosols). These soils are free-draining and highly fertile, supporting intensive land uses such as dairy farming and beef grazing, which are the dominant agricultural activities in the Seaview and Ellinbank areas. The project was managed by Corporate Carbon Solutions, a prominent Australian carbon project developer.
