Bimblebox Regeneration Project

Project Information:

Bimblebox Regeneration Project is a Human-Induced Regeneration project located approximately 20km southwest of Eulo and 80km west of Cunnamulla in the Paroo Shire of South West Queensland. It was registered in November 2016 and covers an area of 15,941.01 hectares.

Human-Induced Regeneration projects involve restoring permanent even-aged native forests, requiring land management changes to achieve a native tree canopy cover of at least 20% with trees reaching two metres or higher.

The surrounding Paroo Shire area is widely known for primary agricultural production, primarily beef cattle and sheep grazing across extensive rangelands. The region is considered semi-arid outback with low average rainfall of roughly 300-350mm annually. Environmental conditions in this district feature soil types that predominantly include red earth (mulga soils), sandy loams, and expansive claypans.

This project was established to create permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources, including rootstock and lignotubers. This occurs on land that was previously cleared of vegetation and where regrowth had been actively suppressed for at least 10 years prior to the project's commencement. To achieve this, the project activities include the complete cessation of mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth, humane management of feral animals, and careful management of the timing and extent of livestock grazing. An interesting administrative note is that a project variation occurred on 25 June 2025, which updated the participant structure by removing Kurrajong Partners Pty Ltd, leaving Jacob Berghofer and Christine Berghofer as the sole proponents.
