Kimbriki Resource Recovery Project - FOGO Line (Revoked)

Project Information:
Kimbriki Resource Recovery Project - FOGO Line (Revoked) was an aggregated waste diversion project located at the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre in Ingleside, approximately 25 kilometers north of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales. Registered in April 2016 and subsequently revoked in June 2020, the project was situated within a major waste management facility that serves the Northern Beaches and Mosman Council areas.
The project operated under the Source Separated Organic Waste methodology, which awards carbon credits for diverting organic material, specifically Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO), from general landfill waste streams. By separating this waste at the point of generation and treating it through eligible technologies like enclosed composting, the project aimed to prevent the generation of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that would otherwise be released as the organic matter decayed anaerobically in a landfill.
The Ingleside and Terrey Hills region is characterized by semi-rural and peri-urban land use, heavily bordered by the Ku-ring-gai Chase and Garigal National Parks. The environmental setting is defined by the Hawkesbury Sandstone landscape, resulting in naturally sandy loam soils and rocky terrain, though the project site itself utilizes a deep gully originally selected for landfill operations in the 1970s. The area experiences a temperate coastal climate with relatively high rainfall compared to inland Australia.
While this specific carbon credit project was revoked, Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises continues to operate as a significant resource recovery hub, reportedly recycling over 80% of incoming waste. The revocation in 2020 followed the termination or lapsing of the project contract in 2017, suggesting that while the facility continues to process organic waste via onsite partners like Australian Native Landscapes (ANL), this specific crediting arrangement was discontinued. The project was originally developed with the assistance of Mike Ritchie and Associates (MRA Consulting), a prominent waste management consultancy.
