Darling River Eco Corridor 1 (Revoked)

Project Information:

Darling River Eco Corridor 1 (Revoked) is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon project located approximately 40km northeast of Cobar in western New South Wales. Registered in March 2016, the project covered a substantial area of 28,219 hectares within the Cobar Shire Council local government area. The project was part of a broader suite of "Darling River Eco-Corridor" initiatives designed to create a contiguous zone of protected vegetation, but it was voluntarily revoked in August 2025.

The project operated under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which awards carbon credits for regenerating native forests on land where vegetation has been historically suppressed, typically by livestock grazing or mechanical clearing. By managing the timing and extent of grazing, the project aimed to allow native species such as Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Bimble Box (Eucalyptus populnea) to regenerate from in-situ seed sources and rootstock. To generate credits, the forest must eventually achieve canopy cover and height thresholds indicative of a permanent forest.

Situated in the semi-arid rangelands of the Cobar Peneplain, the area is characterized by low, erratic rainfall (approximately 350-390mm annually) and red earth soils, often ranging from sandy loams to stony ridges. The primary land use in the region is extensive grazing of sheep, goats, and cattle. The project proponent, Terra Carbon Pty Limited, is a subsidiary of GreenCollar, one of Australia's largest environmental markets developers. The revocation of the project in 2025 was enacted under Section 30 of the CFI Rule, which indicates a voluntary request by the proponent to cancel the project's registration.
