Warrego Carbon Project

Project Information:
Warrego Carbon Project is a Human-Induced Regeneration project located in the Paroo local government area of Queensland, approximately 30km east of Wyandra and 100km northeast of Cunnamulla. It was registered in October 2015 and covers 16,364.05 ha.
Human-Induced Regeneration projects involve establishing permanent native forests through alternative land management practices, allowing native vegetation to naturally regenerate to reach a minimum of 20% canopy cover and 2 meters in height. The activities for this specific project include the cessation of mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth, alongside the active management of the timing and extent of livestock grazing.
The South West Queensland region is well known for extensive sheep and cattle grazing operations. The environment is characterized by a semi-arid climate with low annual rainfall, while local soils generally consist of sandy loams, red earths, and alluvial clays along the plains.
This project establishes permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources, including rootstock and lignotubers, on land that was cleared and suppressed for at least 10 years prior to commencement. In February 2025, the project was updated to remove Corporate Carbon Solutions Pty Ltd as a participant, leaving Trenton and Zephanie Hindman (as Trustees for the Hindman Family Trust) as the sole proponents, with Climate Friendly Pty Ltd continuing as the project agent. Public records show the project also holds an active fixed-delivery carbon abatement contract, originally committing 150,000 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the Commonwealth.
