Wyuna Downs Regrowth Project (Revoked)

Project Information:
The Wyuna Downs Regrowth Project (Revoked) was a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) carbon project located at Wyuna Downs Station, approximately 15 kilometers northeast of the small locality of Byrock and 70 kilometers southeast of Bourke in Western New South Wales. Registered in August 2015, the project spanned a significant area of 12,128 hectares within the Brewarrina local government area. The station typically operates as a grazing property, which is the dominant land use in this region of the Cobar Peneplain.
The project operated under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology, which credits landholders for regenerating permanent native forests on land where vegetation has been historically suppressed. For a project of this type, the primary activities involved excluding livestock and managing feral animals to allow native species, likely Mulga (Acacia aneura) or similar semi-arid woodlands, to regenerate from in-situ seed sources and rootstock. To generate credits, the regenerating forest must eventually achieve canopy cover of at least 20% and a height of 2 meters.
Environmentally, the Wyuna Downs area is characterized by a hot semi-arid climate with variable rainfall, typically averaging between 300mm and 400mm annually. The landscape usually features red earth and sandy loam soils, which support the native shrublands and woodlands targeted by the regeneration activities. These conditions are challenging but suitable for the hardy native species endemic to the Mulga Lands bioregion.
A notable aspect of this project is its revocation status. On February 19, 2018, the project was revoked under Section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. This specific section refers to the "voluntary revocation of declaration of eligible offsets project, no units issued," indicating that the proponent, Anthony Paul Kelley, voluntarily cancelled the project before any Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) were generated or issued. The project was managed with the assistance of Select Carbon Pty Ltd, a prominent carbon service provider now owned by Shell Australia.
