Project Information:

DAC-2015-01 is a native forest regeneration project located in the remote Mulga Lands of southwest Queensland, approximately 90km northeast of the township of Cunnamulla and north of the Balonne Highway. Registered in July 2015, the project encompasses a significant land area of 49,089 hectares. The surrounding region is predominantly pastoral, traditionally utilized for sheep and cattle grazing, and sits within the Murweh and Paroo local government areas.

The project operates under the Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methodology. Unlike tree planting projects, this method focuses on land that has been comprehensively cleared for pastoral use in the past. The core activity involves ceasing the mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth (such as chaining or poisoning) that would typically occur to maintain grazing pastures. By suppressing these clearing activities, the project allows native vegetation to regenerate naturally from in-situ seed sources, rootstocks, and lignotubers.

Environmentally, the area is classified as semi-arid, receiving variable rainfall typically between 300mm and 500mm annually. The landscape is defined by red earth and sandy loam soils, which support the regeneration of resilient native species, particularly Mulga (Acacia aneura) woodlands. These soils are ancient and often low in nutrients, yet they sustain dense scrub when pressure from clearing is removed.

A notable aspect of this project is its proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd, which specializes in this specific methodology and manages a portfolio of over 30 similar projects in southwest Queensland. DAC-2015-01 holds a fixed delivery contract with the Clean Energy Regulator to supply Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the Commonwealth, contributing directly to Australia's national emission reduction targets.
