Western Sydney Waste Diversion Project (Revoked)

Project Information:
Western Sydney Waste Diversion Project (Revoked) is an alternative waste treatment project located in Western Sydney, approximately 40km west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales. It was registered in May 2015 and managed by project proponent Corporate Carbon Solutions Pty Ltd. While the exact project area size is unknown, the site coordinates place it within the heavy industrial and waste management precincts of the Eastern Creek region.
Alternative Waste Treatment (AWT) projects involve diverting mixed solid waste from traditional landfills to an alternative processing facility. By processing this organic waste using eligible technologies, these projects prevent the waste from breaking down anaerobically in a landfill environment, thereby avoiding the generation of harmful methane emissions.
The Western Sydney region's land use is a mix of heavy industrial zones, commercial developments, and peri-urban infrastructure. The local environment features a temperate climate with moderate, year-round rainfall. The region's underlying soils predominantly consist of podzolic clays and Wianamatta shales typical of the Cumberland Plain.
This project was established to construct a new AWT facility that diverts mixed solid waste away from landfills and processes it using an enclosed composting technology. Under its fixed delivery carbon abatement contract (CAC102379), the project successfully delivered 95,000 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to the Commonwealth out of an initial commitment of 125,000. The contract was completed in September 2023, and the project was officially revoked under section 30 of the CFI Rule in April 2026, which typically indicates a voluntary withdrawal following the fulfilment of operational objectives or contract deliveries.
