Argyle Native Forest Protection Project

Project Information:

Argyle Native Forest Protection Project is an Avoided Deforestation project located at Argyle Station, approximately 20km east of Wanaaring in the Far West region of New South Wales. The project was registered in March 2015 and covers a substantial area of 43,777 hectares.

Avoided Deforestation projects involve protecting native forest that the landholder previously had legal permission to clear. To be eligible under this specific methodology, the landholder must hold a clearing consent issued before 1 July 2010. By surrendering this right to clear, the project ensures the forest remains standing to store carbon, rather than being converted into cropland or pasture for agricultural intensification.

The Wanaaring district is situated in the Mulga Lands bioregion and is predominantly utilized for extensive rangeland grazing of sheep and cattle. The environment is classified as semi-arid to arid, with low and variable rainfall averaging around 280mm annually. The soils in this location are typically deep red sandy loams and red earths, supporting native vegetation communities dominated by Mulga (Acacia aneura), Bimble Box, and Ironwood.

This project is situated on Argyle Station, a property owned by Mike and Lucy Rosser. Notably, the project proponent, Terra Carbon Pty Limited, is a subsidiary of GreenCollar. In addition to this carbon project, the landholders have worked with GreenCollar to generate "NaturePlus" biodiversity credits on the same property, marking a significant instance of stacking environmental market outcomes.
