Gingie Natural Regeneration Project (Revoked)
EOP101073
Project Information:
The Gingie Natural Regeneration Project (Revoked) was a carbon farming initiative located in the Murweh Shire of South West Queensland, approximately 60km northwest of Charleville and 50km west of Augathella. Registered in March 2015 and covering a substantial area of 41,827 hectares, the project was situated within the Mulga Lands bioregion. While the project shares its name with the well-known "Gingie" pastoral station in Walgett, NSW, owned by the proponent Charles Anthony Pye, the coordinate data places the actual project area in the Queensland outback, indicating the proponent likely held this Queensland property as part of a broader pastoral portfolio.
The project operated under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology, which credits landholders for allowing native forests to regenerate by suppressing removing stressors such as mechanical clearing or intensive grazing. For a project of this scale in the Mulga Lands, the activity would have primarily involved managing cattle or sheep grazing pressure to allow in-situ seed banks (rootstock and lignotubers) to re-establish permanent forest cover. The region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 500mm, supporting vegetation dominated by Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Poplar Box on red earth and sandy loam soils.
The project was voluntarily revoked on April 20, 2018, under section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. This section of the Rule allows proponents to voluntarily request the revocation of a project declaration, often occurring when a project is deemed commercially unviable, the property is sold, or the landholder wishes to exit the scheme without penalty (provided any issued credits are returned, though it is likely no credits were issued given the short three-year lifespan).
