Glen Hope Native Forest Protection Project

Project Information:

The Glen Hope Native Forest Protection Project is an Avoided Deforestation project located in the Bogan Shire of Central West New South Wales. The project area sits approximately 75 kilometers northwest of Nyngan and 35 kilometers north of the village of Hermidale. Registered in March 2015, the project protects 3,867 hectares of native vegetation from being cleared.

The surrounding region operates primarily as a grazing landscape for sheep and cattle, with some opportunistic cropping of wheat and canola in favorable seasons. The environment is characterized as semi-arid, typically receiving between 350mm and 450mm of rainfall annually. The terrain generally features red earth soils and supports native woodlands often dominated by bimble box, white cypress pine, and mulga species.

This project utilizes the Avoided Deforestation 1.1 methodology, which applies to landholders who hold a specific clearing permit (often an Invasive Native Scrub Property Vegetation Plan) issued before July 1, 2010. By choosing not to exercise this right to clear the land for agricultural conversion (such as cropping or improved pasture), the project generates carbon credits for the emissions avoided. The proponent, Terra Carbon Pty Limited, is a subsidiary of GreenCollar, one of Australia’s largest environmental markets investors.
