Nimboy Carbon Farming Project

Project Information:

Nimboy Carbon Farming Project is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located at Murweh Shire, approximately 80km west of Charleville in South West Queensland. It was registered in January 2015 and covers an extensive area of 10,844.06 hectares.

Native Forest from Managed Regrowth projects involve allowing native vegetation to recover and regenerate into a permanent native forest. This methodology requires landholders to cease activities that previously suppressed the regrowth, such as mechanical clearing, chemical destruction, or intensive grazing. By allowing the land to naturally recover from in-situ seed sources, such as rootstock and lignotubers, the project sequesters carbon in the regrowing biomass.

The Murweh Shire and surrounding Charleville area are well known for broadacre pastoral operations, primarily cattle and sheep grazing. The region is situated in the Mulga Lands bioregion, which features a semi-arid climate with low average rainfall. The typical soil profiles in this region consist of red earths, sandy loams, and clay loams.

The project specifically establishes permanent native forests on land that was historically subject to at least one comprehensive clearing event for pastoral use. In July 2021, the project's proponent, Devine Agribusiness Carbon Pty Ltd, was acquired by GreenCollar, Australia's largest environmental markets investor. The project has also successfully completed its Carbon Abatement Contract (CAC739214) with the Commonwealth in February 2023, delivering over 32,690 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) since being initially contracted in November 2016. Furthermore, credits generated by the Nimboy project have been utilized by major corporations, including Suncorp Group, to meet their Climate Active carbon neutral certification goals.
