Pine Ridge Native Forest Protection Project

Project Information:

Pine Ridge Native Forest Protection Project is an avoided deforestation project located at the "Pine Ridge" property, approximately 60km southwest of Cobar in Western New South Wales. Registered in March 2014, the project covers a significant area of 8,366 hectares. The region is characterized by its semi-arid climate and red earth soils, supporting a landscape of Mulga and Cypress Pine woodlands that have historically been utilized for grazing sheep and cattle.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Avoided Deforestation 1.1) Methodology Determination 2015. This methodology is designed for landholders who hold a valid clearing consent issued prior to July 1, 2010, but choose to protect the forest instead of converting it to cropland or grassland. By maintaining the native forest cover, the project prevents the release of carbon dioxide that would occur through the clearing and decomposition of vegetation.

The project is managed by the Bruce family (Mary, Phillip, and Trent Bruce) in partnership with Terra Carbon Pty Limited, a subsidiary of the environmental markets developer GreenCollar. The "Pine Ridge" property has a long history in the Cobar district; historical records indicate it was one of several stations affected by significant bushfires in the region as far back as 1932.
