Flat Lead Road Carbon Project

Project Information:
Flat Lead Road Carbon Project is a Plantation forestry project located at Flat Lead Road in Yea, approximately 112km north-east of Melbourne in Victoria. It was registered on May 26, 2026, and covers an unknown area.
Plantation forestry projects involve sequestering carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Standard requirements dictate that trees must be planted at a sufficient stocking density to eventually achieve forest cover, typically defined as reaching at least two metres in height and 20% crown cover, while being maintained according to standard commercial silvicultural practices.
The Yea region and the broader Murrindindi Shire are well known for grazing operations, specifically merino sheep and cattle farming, as well as historic forestry and timber-getting. The area experiences a temperate climate characterized by moderate and reliable rainfall throughout the year. Soils across the undulating hills of the Yea district are typically Kandosols, which transition into more fertile alluvial loams and sandy clay loams closer to the floodplains of the Yea River.
Interestingly, this project is set in an area incredibly rich in local history. The Yea region was a notable hub for gold-mining in the late 1850s, and is home to the Yea Flora Fossil Site, famous for yielding the most ancient leafy foliage ever discovered on Earth.
