Bon Accord Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:

Bon Accord Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located at the "Bon Accord" property, approximately 8km southeast of Jackson and roughly 80km east of Roma in Queensland. It was registered in February 2026 and covers 1384.92ha.

Soil carbon projects under the Measurement and Models methodology involve altering agricultural practices to increase the amount of organic carbon stored in the soil. For this project, the proponents will alter the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve soil health, using physical sampling and models to estimate sequestration.

The Jackson and wider Maranoa region is widely known for beef cattle grazing, cropping, and backgrounding operations. The environment is considered semi-arid to sub-tropical with medium rainfall. The local landscape at the property features a mix of heavy scrub soils and lighter sandy loams.

Historically, the Bon Accord property has been heavily utilized as a cattle backgrounding depot due to its proximity to the major Roma Saleyards. The property supports improved pastures like buffel and Rhodes grass alongside native species, and features solar-equipped dams to support the rotational cattle grazing operations necessary for this carbon project.
