Woodside Native Reforestation Project - Phase 10

Project Information:
Woodside Native Reforestation Project - Phase 10 is an environmental and mallee planting project located across multiple sites in the Western Australian Wheatbelt, with major parcels situated within the Moora local government area roughly 170km north of Perth, and extending to coordinates further east. It was registered on February 17, 2026, and covers a total project area of 1246.53 hectares.
Environmental and mallee planting projects involve establishing permanent plantings of native trees and shrubs on land that was previously cleared for agricultural use. Under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology, these projects must establish a permanent forest cover at an appropriate density to reliably sequester carbon over the project's lifetime, which for this specific project features a nominated permanence period of 100 years.
The WA Wheatbelt region is highly modified and traditionally known for broadacre agriculture, predominantly dryland cropping (such as wheat and canola) and sheep grazing. The area generally experiences a Mediterranean to semi-arid climate characterized by distinct winter rainfall. Soils across these planting sites typically consist of sandy loams, lateritic gravelly soils, and some clays.
This project establishes permanent plantings of mallee eucalypt species alongside a mix of native trees and shrubs that are local to the area. The chosen species mix is carefully designed to reflect the natural structure and composition of the local native vegetation community. As the "Phase 10" designation indicates, this project is part of a much larger, ongoing carbon offset rollout by Woodside Energy across the state; for instance, Phase 4 of this reforestation initiative was registered back in May 2023. To facilitate these ongoing developments, the project proponent, Woodside Energy Carbon (Services) Pty Ltd, works alongside local authorities, such as submitting planning proposals for plantation forestry and reforestation to the Shire of Moora.
